The Internet’s Own Boy

“There’s no justice in following unjust law, It’s time to come into the light and, in a grand tradition of civil disobedience declare our opposition to this private theft of public culture”

The story of Aaron Swartz is such inspiring as dramatic; He was a smart child that since a very young age wanted to make the world a better place using his knowledges and abilities.

He wanted everyone to have free access to internet and culture, in fact, why is something that should be public privatise? During is trial, he was treated like a criminal even tho what he was doing was definitely not a crime. There is a difference between stealing money and stealing informations, and especially if we think about the purpose and the type of data that he was stealing, the treatment that he received from the USA government was definitely unfair.

He didn’t wanted to make a profit out of his actions, such other programmers and entrepreneurs did at the same time and in the same position, he just wanted to make the culture public and free to access, as it should be; That’s why I think the film is so worth to be watched, first of all it gives you a good overview of everything that Aaron did and has fought for and also highlight how unjust the criminal system was, focusing and using all of his power against an innocent: they clearly wanted to make an example out of his cause, but they were on the wrong side of history by considering him as a criminal and and they are the reason that lead to his suicide.
